On this special day, we honor the legacy of Saints Cyril and Methodius, creators of the Glagolitic script – the first alphabet designed for writing in the Slavic language. Their mission laid the foundation for Christian enlightenment among the Slavic peoples.

After their passing, in the cultural centers of Preslav and Ohrid, their disciples β€” most notably Saint Clement of Ohrid β€” developed and spread a new, simplified alphabet: the Cyrillic script. Created in the late 9th century in the First Bulgarian Empire and supported by Tsar Simeon the Great, Cyrillic soon became the official script of Bulgaria and later spread to many other Slavic nationsπŸ’–
